As writing slumps go, this has been a pretty good one. But thans to Colin Powell, I busted out of my funk and I am back. Colin recently said the following: [Republicans need to stop listening to Rush Limbaugh]. I’ve heard this argument before:

Modernize; listen to minority groups. Republicans can’t win if they hold a hard line on immigration. The world has changed and the republicans must change too.

Did I get that about right, Colin?

I wish I had an original thought on this, but Mark Levin and Sean Hannity, two conservative talk show hosts, have already debunked this. So I’ll just regurgitate what they have already said and pepper it with my own comments.

*Cracks Knuckles* Okay, Colin, have a seat. I’m going to try and explain this as directly as possible. I’ll even use a cute little bulleted list to make it easier for you to follow:

There is a difference between a conservative and a republican… Specifically, the republicans just ran your ideal candidate, John McCain. Here’s a man who is pro amnesty for illegals, was part of limiting Free Speech in McCain - Feingold, and who’s known to be a “Maverick”. Which is another way of saying: “unprincipled, a fly by the seat of my pants kind of guy”. And he got killed on election day. A lot of pundits, myself included felt that many obama votes were more accurately, “Votes against 4 more years of Bush policy”. Heck, Obama himself even ran his campaign on that mantra, and rather effectively. Bush abandoned conservative principles and increased spending while cutting taxes (***allow me to interject a little history… conservatives are typically know for fiscal responsibility, ergo, Bush acted liberal). Further, Bush and his amnesty for illegals plan is also anti-conservative, pro-liberal. Talk to any conservative, not republican, but conservative, and they are not thrilled with Bush either (I will note that Bush’s approval rating, low as it may be, is higher than the Pelosi/Reid democratic House/Senate). And now we have Bush wanting to nationalize the auto industry in a move that bows to organized labor and interferes with the free market. In summary, Bush and McCain are not conservative, they got screwed acting like libs.

Next point, Obama ran on conservative principles and won. What!?, you say? Let me explain. Obama ran his campaign against Bush by promising to balance the budget (conservative ideal). Take the war to Afghanistan and find Osama wherever he may be (conservative ideal). Interesting strategy, but it worked. Meanwhile, McCain wanted to bail out bad loans with your money (liberal).

Next, let’s look at leadership. It’s not the ideals of the conservative party that need modernizing, it’s the leadership and communication of those ideals. Do you really want McCain, Palin, or Bush being the front man for conservative in America. Heck no! Ronald Reagan slaughtered the incumbent Jim Carter and embarrassed Dukakis 4 years later on a very conservative platform. Yes, that was 20 years ago, but let me argue, that Obama is the liberal version of Reagan. He is likable, communicates well, stays on message, keeps it simple, and he relates effectively with the populus. Not because of the percentage of melanin in his dermis, but his life experiences. Never having met McCain, I look at him and just think dude smells like old people.

And finally, Colin, as we near the end of our history lesson, let me point you to Ronald Regan’s address, “Let them go their own way.” Now you knew this was coming, didn’t you. What have you got to say now Colin? For my readers who are less familiar with this speech, let me give you some historic perspective. This was the 70’s. Republicans got clobbered in Nov. 1974. The world was changing faster than it is today (i.e. the world had just seen the 60’s and a very popular Kennedy]. The republicans, and conservatives by extension, never looked more dated. Pundits, even conservative pundits, were calling for change in the party. “A modernization.” Regan eloquently stepped forward, and it my words said, [We already have a liberal party, why do we need two of them? Anyone who wants to leave our party, "Let them go their own way."] Now, you really should follow the link and read/listen/watch this speech for yourself. I really have more respect for democrats than I do for traitorous Republicans like Powell. At least Obama, Reid, and Pelosi, hold to their liberal ideology. They are swayed from their values because the man running for office looks like they do. That’s right, Powell, you are a racist.

Watch the video on YouTube: Barbara West asks Joe Biden if Barrack Obama is a Marxist

Since Joe Biden and his leftist friends don’t seem to think a woman can be president (Hillary) or vice-president (Sarah), it’s nice to see a strong woman take it to Joey. And in typical elist form, Joe scoffs at the question and asks “Is that a real question?” Yes, Joe, that is a strong woma0n asking you a hard question. Barack and you are running to be president and vice-president of the United States. It’s not as though she asked you if you really support infanticide (because we all know, liberals only want to protect the poor, that is unless they are still in the uterus). Then it’s okay to kill them, right Barack?

Excerpt:

Who do you want answering that phone at 3 a.m.? A man who’s been cramming on these issues for the past year, who’s never had to make an executive decision affecting so much as a city, let alone the world? A foreign policy novice instinctively inclined to the flabbiest, most vaporous multilateralism (e.g., the Berlin Wall came down because of “a world that stands as one“), and who refers to the most deliberate act of war since Pearl Harbor as “the tragedy of 9/11,” a term more appropriate for a bus accident?

When this blog thing all started I lacked focus. Today, I lack focus, but I now understand that lack of focus to be part of my plan. Let me explain…

I listen to a lot of talk radio. Friends joke that I remove the FM from my car radios. I read drudge several times a day and chase the articles of interest. Through all that crap, i occassionally have an original thought. Where to share it? The wife long ago grew sick of my tirades. Co-workers would understandably be put off by it. So you, my good reader, are the anonymous victim of my bolt of arrows that fly like so many scuds from my keyboard.

What do I talk about on this blog? First, what I don’t talk about… family, what i do for fun, the minutia of my day to day activities. Now, I may have put some of that crap on here in the past, but i doubt you’ll see much of it in the future. What moves me is politics. Not because the candidates or their message is so inspired. What moves me is the ideals that brought the earliest europeans to this nation. From them, what motivated inspired men of God to risk their lives and their families lives their home, their career, in short, their all, to chase liberty. The American Experiment. What seperated us from so many nations/empires/worlds gone by? The ideals set forth in the Declaration of INdependence, the US Constitution are pearls from God. Given to man as an endowment from which to build a world where his son’s work could flourish. Only in America could Christianity thrive and go forth to the rest of the world in righteous power. Further, in this nation, man is free to choose liberty and eternal life, or death and destruction. The government is limited by the constitution from choosing for us. So don’t let anyone tell you we should empower the government to insure our home loans, give health care, student loans, daycare, tax breaks for kids, or any other social program because it is “good” or because it “helps people”. ANy nation powerful enough to give those things in earnest will necessarily be powerful enough to take them away and more. THough it is true, a powerful central government centered in God would have the ability to accomplish the most good, all it takes is one evil successor to create tyranny. And power once given to a government is rarely rescinded. Hasnt history taught the democrats yet that a strong central government only leads to death and destruction via tyranny. How many wars have been fought to unseat a leader empowered by a nation hungry for change?

So maybe something I write motivates you to read the constitution again, or cherish your freedom just a little more. Or maybe I just feel better for remembering it myself.
